PORT ISAAC - 06/09/06

Cornwall in the south west of England is the latest county to be featured on the website, this is the first of a few pages which will all be added in the near future from a two week visit in September 06.

All of the photos on this page were taken in Port Isaac, a historic fishing village on the northern coast of Cornwall. There are wonderful views from the Cornish coastal path towards the historic cottages and buildings in the village, mostly dating from the 18th and 19th century. The village has a unique character with its steep narrow streets that guide you towards the beach and harbour once used for loading and unloading stone, coal, wood and pottery.

Today there is still an active fishing community operating from the sheltered harbour but the tourism trade also plays a big part in village life with many interesting shops selling local crafts, produce, and some excellent Cornish Pasties.

A one-off special of the popular Doc Martin television series was being filmed in the village when we visited.

Starring Martin Clunes and Caroline Catz the show is a comedy drama about a high flying London surgeon who moves to Port Wenn, (Port Isaac) to become a GP after developing a blood phobia.

It was an interesting way to spend a couple of hours watching the filming and surprising just how long is taken over individual scenes, the special episode that we watched being filmed is scheduled to be screened in the UK on Christmas Day on ITV
