NEW MILLS, TORRS RIVERSIDE PARK - 24/01/04

Today's photos are from the Torrs Riverside Park at New Mills, Derbyshire. The park, and car parking is signposted from the A6 road that runs from Buxton towards Stockport. For a map of the area click here. The weather today consists of heavy wintry showers with occasional bright spells.

It is a short walk down from the centre of New Mills, past the Heritage and Information Centre to the Millennium Walkway. This impressive steel walkway was opened in April 2000. The Torrs sandstone gorge was formed by the Goyt and Sett rivers in the ice age.

After the recent heavy rainfall in the area the rivers are carrying a lot of water. A number of walks are accessible from here, the Sett Valley Trail, routes through the Goyt Valley and the Midshires Way.
In the view on the right, a brief glimpse of the sun on Teggs Nose from across Bottoms Reservoir in Macclesfield Forest. Just before another heavy shower of hailstones.
