MONSAL DALE - 04/05/03

Monsal Dale is located 5 miles North West of Bakewell in Derbyshire, near the village of Ashford in the Water. Access is via the A6 Buxton to Bakewell Road, then taking the turning towards Chesterfield, along the A6020. The car park at Monsal Head has room for 150 cars, there is a pub and toilets. Many people regard this area as among the most scenic in the Peak District.

We access Monsal Dale by taking the route down from the pay and display car park at Monsal Head, walking in the direction of Ashford in the Water.
The route takes us over the Viaduct which used to carry a railway line from Manchester to Derby.We walk as far as a Weir on the River Wye.
There are impressive views and a wide variety of wildlife in the area.
