The Holker Garden Festival, 1st June 2003, held
in the grounds of Holker Hall, Cark-in-Cartmel. The Festival is held each
year at the estate which is the home of Lord and Lady Cavendish and is near
Grange-over-Sands to celebrate the gardens, countryside and local foods and
crafts. |

Starting at the National Trust Car Park at White
Moss Common we walk towards Grasmere Lake, the short path towards the lake
can easily combined with walks to Grasmere Village and Rydal Mount where
William Wordsworth once lived as well as Loughrigg Fell with great views
across Lake Windermere. |

|
The walk takes you alongside the river Rothay
that links Grasmere and Rydal Water which can be found on your left as you
follow the path. |

Across the other side of the main A591 from the
White Moss Common car park we walk up a steep slope to a small tarn with
good views over Rydal Water including Heron Island. On the right a small
mouse, spotted in the rocks. |
