LATHKILL DALE - 05/05/03

Lathkill Dale is located South West of Bakewell, in the Peak District National Park. We park at the pay and display car park at Over Haddon which you can access from the Buxton to Ashbourne Roman road, the A515, then turning onto the B5055 towards Monyash or from the A6 in Bakewell. The weather was warm and sunny, the temperature about 12.5˚C.

The route down to the Lathkill Dale from the car park is along the appropriately named Steep Lane, past a very tempting looking tea room! There are a few car parking spaces nearer the bottom of the Valley reserved for disabled badge holders.

We walk along the river as far as the medieval Conksbury bridge. There is an abundance of wildlife in the area, designated as a National Nature Reserve and run by English Nature.

There are a number of weirs on the river which is filled with Trout and a number of Coot's nests.

1p - what a rip off! The information point before we start the descent back up 'Steep Lane' gives information about the route to the East of where we walked, that takes you towards Monyash.
