This latest update to Boots and
Paws features more photos from the Lake District, including Loughrigg Tarn,
Hawkshead and the Honister Slate Mines.
The beautiful Loughrigg Tarn is another setting
that was used in the Miss Potter film about the life of Beatrix Potter. The
circular walk around Loughrigg is a short and mostly flat route with good
views of the tarn and the surrounding Langdale Pikes, the tarn is located
near Elterwater to the west of Ambleside.
More views from a walk around Loughrigg Tarn
and the farmhouses and cottages that can be seen from the walk, the cottage
in the photo on the right is a close up of the one that can be seen from
across the tarn in the row of photos above.
The Red Lion is one of many pubs in the popular
Hawkshead village where like many Lake District villages tourism has become
the main industry with its gift shops and tea rooms attracting visitors.
Located between Buttermere and Borrowdale the
Honister Slate Mine is Englands only working slate mine, the mine is open to
visitors with a visitor centre, shop and underground guided tours available.
The photo on the left shows the view from the mines towards the narrow Honister Pass.
