GOYT VALLEY - PART 2 - 27/04/03
From the car park at Errwood we take the circular forest trail that goes past the remains of Errwood Hall. It was originally built about 1840 by Samuel Grimshaw but demolished in 1938 when the Reservoirs were built to prevent pollution. (For more information about the Goyt Valley click here)
Rhododendrons surround the walk Samuel Grimshaw boasted of 40,000 in number. They are not in flower yet though, probably another couple of weeks. The circular walk brings you back to the Errwood car park.
The Gorse is in flower around the Peak District. Next we head towards Lamaload Reservoir. New arrivals in the photo on the right above.
Lamaload is not in the Goyt Valley as such, but is on the route towards the Buxton to Macclesfield road, recently confirmed as the most dangerous road in England. |
