Tonight we walk around the Mere at
Astbury Country Park, it is located near to the centre of Congleton in Cheshire
and is signposted off the main A34 road. The weather is dry and bright, with
long sunny spells. Car parking is free of charge at the Visitor Centre.
Astbury Mere is a former sand quarry now run
by a charity, the Astbury Mere Trust.
There are many things to do at the Mere,
including a diving/sailing club, walking and fishing as well as the Visitors Centre,
Playground and a Cafe.
You can take watersports lessons at the club,
as in the centre photograph, windsurfing.
A wide variety of wild flowers can be found in
the area as well as waterfowl, such as coots, moorhen, swans and grebes. The
circular walk finishes as it started back at the Visitors Centre, as the
photo on the right.
